The Unclaimed Money Registry and Next-of-Kin Advertisement Office of F. H. Dougal & Co., on the Strand in London, published a comprehensive 'Index to Advertisements for Next of Kin, Heirs at Law, Legatees, &c., &c., who have been Advertised for to Claim Money and Property in Great Britain and all Parts of the World; also Annuitants, Shareholders, Intestates, Testators, Missing Friends, Creditors or their Representatives, Claimants, Unclaimed and Reclaimed Dividends and Stock, Citations, Administrations, Rewards for Certificates, Wills, Advertisements, &c., Claims, Unclaimed Balances, Packages, Addresses, Parish Clerks' Notices, Foreign Intestates, &c., &c.' The original list was compiled about 1880, but from materials dating back even into the 18th century: most of the references belong to 1850 to 1880. For each entry only a name is given, sometimes with a placename added in brackets: there may be a reference number, but there is no key by which the original advertisement may be traced. The enquirer of the time had to remit £1 for a 'Full and Authentic Copy of the Original Advertisement, together with name and date of newspaper in which the same appeared'. This section of the 1886 edition was devoted to 'Unclaimed Property in Chancery': "THE following is a list of the titles of causes in the Court of Chancery, to the credit of which funds have remained unclaimed for many years, and for which ADVERTISEMENTS have appeared calling upon the NEXT-OF-KIN, HEIRS-AT-LAW, and LEGAL PERSONAL REPRESENTATIVES to come in and establish their claims. The annual Dentists Register, 'Printed and Published under the Direction of The General Council of Medical Education and Registration of the United Kingdom, Pursuant to an Act Passed in the Year XLI & XLII Victorię, Cap. XXXIII, Entitled An Act to Amend the Law relating to Dental Practioners' included a section listing all current dental students. This gives full name (surname first, in capitals); preliminary examination in Arts, with date thereof; date of registration; place and date of commencement of medical or dental study, as certified by a master, or a teacher, or an official in a medical or dental school or hospital. In a few cases there is a dagger before the name: this indicates students from before 1 October 1885 (when it still was only optional) who took the subject of Elementary Mechanics.PICTON. Tripos lists or examination results for the year, arranged by class (First, Second and Third), and within each class in order of score in the examination (students getting exactly equal marks are bracketed together). Each student's surname and college is given: this list was printed in 1890, and was annotated with asterisks to show which students had subsequently become fellows of the university; and with footnotes showing those who had become headmasters, &c., elsewhere. The course was divided into parts I and II, with separate examinations, and the results into First Class (split into Divisions 1, 2, 3); Second Class (split into Divisions 1, 2, 3); and Third Class (split into Divisions 1, 2, 3), but the examinants listed purely alphabetically within each division. In the lists for Part II, those students gaining firsts are further annotated with the letters b, c, d or e, denoting the section or sections for which they were awarded first class honours. The letter a indicates that the candidate had also attained a first class standard in section A. An asterisk next to any of these letters indicates special distinction. Women students are listed separately, but on the same basis. These lists are particularly useful in identifying for an individual the fellow-students who will have attended lectures with him; and, where from the college, are likely to have been even more closely associated by having been under the same supervisor. The Kalendar of the Royal Institure of British Architects for 1888-9 includes this list of members, corrected to 8 November 1888. It is in six parts: Honorary Fellows, Fellows, Honorary Associates, Associates, and those nominated by ballot to become Fellows and Associates. The names throughout are given in full, surname first, with current address. Those members marked * had been previously Members of Council. Members of the present Council were printed in full capitals. Those marked with a dagger were in possession of a certificate of competency to act as a District Surveyor or a Building Surveyor; those with a double dagger had passed the institute's architecture examination. (L) indicates a life member. "The Fellows shall be Architects who have been engaged as Principals for at least seven successive uears in the practice of Architecture."
