Leeds Traders (1798) 'The Leeds Directory For the Year 1798. Containing an Alphabetical List of the Corporation, Clergy, Merchants, Professors of the Law and Physic, Manufacturers, Traders, &c. Also Particulars of the Mail and Other Coaches, Waggons, And the Navigation Barges, By which Goods and Merchandize are conveyed from this Town to various Parts of the Kingdom. Particulars of the coming in and going out of the Posts, &c. &c.' includes this main alphabetical list of merchants, traders, &c., usually giving full name (surname first), trade, and address. Workers at Chorlton Cotton Mills (1818) The minutes of evidence taken before the Lords Committee on the Cotton Factories Bill include a series of reports by medical men as to the general health of the mill workers in April 1818. For each factory there is a complete list of workers, giving full name, age, how long employed in a factory, health (in general terms, such as 'Good' or 'Sickly'), and any chronic disease or 'distortion', cause and duration - with slight variations from report to report. The physicians examined several hundred people each day, asking such questions as 'Have you any swellings or sores anywhere?', 'Are your limbs straight?', 'Have you a good appetite for food?', 'Do you conceive yourself to be in good health?', and all concluded that the health of the mill workers was good, and that the workers were cheerful. This is the report for Birley & Hornby's Chorlton Mills. The report was divided into two sections, adults and children, and this is the report on the adults, 23 April 1818. WINDOWS. Cost: £6.00. City of Oxford Electors (1882) The electoral register for the City of Oxford for 1882 lists persons entitled to vote at any election of a member or members to serve in parliament for the city or parliamentary borough of Oxford in that year. The names are arranged alphabetically in the parishes of Saint Aldate, Binsey, Saint Clement, Cowley, Saint Ebbe, Saint Giles, Headington, Holywell, Iffley, Saint John, Saint Martin, Saint Mary Magdalen, Saint Mary the Virgin, Saint Michael, North Hincksey and South Hincksey (in Berkshire), Saint Peter in the East, Saint Peter le Bailey, and Saint Thomas. In each case the voter number (out of a total of 6190) is given in the first column; then full name, surname first; place of abode; nature of qualification (such as house, &c.); and the name and situation of the qualifying property (often the same as the place of abode). At the end of each parish there is a list of freemen to be registered as parliamentary voters, with number, full name (surname first) and place of abode; and a list of lodgers registered as parliamentary voters, with number, full name (surname first), description of rooms occupied, and whether furnished or not, address, amount of rent paid, and name and address of landlord.
