Shareholders of the Manchester and Liverpool District Banking Company
(1838) The provincial banks of England and Wales made annual returns to the Stamp Office of their proprietors or shareholders. Royal Artillery fighting in China
(1856-1860) The China Medal was awarded to soldiers and sailors who took part in the prosecution of the war against the Chinese from 1856 to 1860. Separate clasps were awarded for men who had been in receipt of the China Medal of 1842; for being actually present at Canton on 28 and 29 December 1857, when that city was bombarded and finally captured; for being actually engaged in the operations which ceased with the first capture of the Taku Forts, 20 May 1858, and led to the Treaty of Tientsin; for being actually present at the capture of the Taku Forts 21 August 1860; and for being actually present before Pekin the day the gate of that city was given up to the allied (British and French) army, viz. on 13 October 1860. Carpenters Excluded from the Union: Newcastle-under-Lyme
(1865) Each annual report of the Amalgamated Society of Carpenters and Joiners included a list of excluded members, arranged by branch. The great majority of the exclusions were for non-payment of entrance money or arrears, but other reasons are cited from time to time - fraud; bringing the society into discredit; dishonesty; entering the society under false pretences; working contrary to the society's interest; not being a competent workman. In most cases names are given in full.

Soldiers of the 2nd battalion, Manchester Regiment, fighting in Egypt
(1882) The war medal roll for the Egyptian campaign of 1882 is annotated to show those men actually present at Tel-el-Kebir, and thereby also entitled to the Tel-el-Kebir clasp. In addition, there follows an almost duplicate roll of men entitled to the Bronze Star granted by the Khedive of Egypt in recognition of the campaign. The 2nd battalion, The Manchester Regiment, embarked for Malta in 1881, and was transferred to Egypt in 1882 for this campaign. The troops remained in Egypt until October, when they sailed for the East Indies: this medal roll was compiled at Mooltan in January 1883.PLEVIN. Cost: £8.00.  | Sample scan, click to enlarge
