Ticket-of-Leave Men
(1853-1854) 1205 convicts (1157 men, 48 women) were granted tickets-of-leave giving them conditional pardon from 10 October 1853 to 11 July 1854. This return gives full name, where and when convicted, offence, sentence in years, date of licence and annuity. Nine of the men's licences were revoked for fresh offences.PIDDICK. Outstanding soldiers of the Royal Engineers
(1881-1901) Each year the best soldiers were chosen for long service and good conduct medals. This register gives rank, name, regimental number, and date of recommendation. (The sample scan is from the East Surrey regiment). The register is essentially a register of recommendations, annotated with details of the issue of the medals. Where no gratuity accompanied the medal, the entry is marked 'W. G.' (without gratuity); where, for one reason or another, the medal was not issued, the entry is marked 'N. S.'
