This abstract of the surviving charter rolls for 1300 to 1326, in the reigns of kings Edward I and II, was prepared by C. G. Crump and A. E. Stamp and published in 1908. The charter rolls not only recorded royal grants of lands, liberties and offices, but also enabled landowners to have their existing charters, their deeds of title, registered by the process of inspeximus and confirmation. After the Statute of Mortmain of 1279, this was of particular importance to religious houses, now greatly restricted in their ability to receive new donations of land, and anxious to prove title to their ancient property. The Worcestershire Lay Subsidy roll of the 1st year of king Edward III lists lay inhabitants of each township of the shire and of the five boroughs of Droitwich (Wych), Dudley, Evesham, Kidderminster and Worcester, with the amount of tax payable by each. | House of Lords Proceedings

Private bills dealing with divorce, disputed and entailed estates: petitions, reports and commissions: naturalisation proceedings. This abstract of the archives from the first and second Session of the second Parliament of Great Britain, 16 November 1708 to 5 April 1710, was prepared by F. W. Lascelles and C. K. Davidson and printed in 1923 in continuation of the volumes issued under the authority of the Historical Manuscripts Commission. The source materials are the manuscript minutes of proceedings, called the Lords Journal (MS. Min.); manuscript minutes of Select Committee proceedings (Com. Book); manuscript minutes of the Committee for Privileges (Priv. Book); the Long Calendar list of acts public and private consecutively by regnal year; and the Folio Edition of Statutes of the Realm. The proceedings are cross-referenced to the printed Lords Journal (L. J.). The greater part of this volume is taken up with the papers laid before the House relating to an expedition fitted out by king Louis XIV of France in an unsuccessful attempt to establish the Pretender on the throne of Scotland in March 1708. | Trainee Schoolmasters at Glasgow

The Education Department set examinations of trainee teachers at the various training colleges in Britain. This is the class list of the men who took examinations at Glasgow Church of Scotland Teacher Training College at Christmas 1875. The names are given for the second year first, arranged by division in the examination (in order of merit for the first and second divisions), and then for the students of the first year, arranged similarly. Full names are given (with initials for middle names). The letter (D.) indicates that the candidate had obtained a certificate of competency as a teacher of drawing.
