 Apprentices and clerks

Apprenticeship indentures and clerks' articles were subject to a 6d or 12d per pound stamp duty: the registers of the payments usually give the master's trade, address, and occupation, and the apprentice's name, as well as details of the date and length of the apprenticeship. 3 January to 31 December 1803. Staffordshire Inquests

The accounts of expenses incurred by John Cattlow of Cheadle, Staffordshire coroner, list the full names of the deceased. Cattlow's accounts do not give the place of the inquest, but the cost of travel is shown (9d a mile out and nothing back) from which the distance can be calculated.
