Unclaimed Money and Property (1870) Gun & Co. of 6 Prince of Wales' Road, London, in about 1870 published this fifth 'List of Next of Kin & Heirs, &c., who have been Advertised for in the English, Irish, Scotch, United States of America, Canadian, Australian, East and West Indian, and other Newspapers, since 1704. Money & Property to the value of many Millions Sterling want Claimants'. The list of 4,128 names gives surname, christian name, and, occasionally, locality. Copies of the actual advertisements were furnished to enquirers by the company at a cost of six shillings. BRONSON. Cost: £6.00.	Sample scan, click to enlarge
Missing Next-of-Kin and Heirs-at-Law (1880) The Unclaimed Money Registry and Next-of-Kin Advertisement Office of F. H. Dougal & Co., on the Strand in London, published a comprehensive 'Index to Advertisements for Next of Kin, Heirs at Law, Legatees, &c., &c., who have been Advertised for to Claim Money and Property in Great Britain and all Parts of the World; also Annuitants, Shareholders, Intestates, Testators, Missing Friends, Creditors or their Representatives, Claimants, Unclaimed and Reclaimed Dividends and Stock, Citations, Administrations, Rewards for Certificates, Wills, Advertisements, &c., Claims, Unclaimed Balances, Packages, Addresses, Parish Clerks' Notices, Foreign Intestates, &c., &c.' The original list was compiled about 1860, but from materials dating back even into the 18th century: most of the references belong to 1850 to 1880. For each entry only a name is given, sometimes with a placename added in brackets: there may be a reference number, but there is no key by which the original advertisement may be traced. The enquirer of the time had to remit £1 for a 'Full and Authentic Copy of the Original Advertisement, together with name and date of newspaper in which the same appeared'. BRONSON. Cost: £4.00. Army commissariat and transport departments in Egypt (1882) The war medal roll for the Egyptian campaign of 1882 is annotated to show those men actually present at Tel-el-Kebir, and thereby also entitled to the Tel-el-Kebir clasp. In addition, there follows an almost duplicate roll of men entitled to the Bronze Star granted by the Khedive of Egypt in recognition of the campaign. BRONSON. Cost: £8.00. Anglicans in Salford and their children (1890) The parish magazine of the populous Anglican parish of Salford St Matthias contains not only parish news and notices, but also lists of Baptisms, Marriages and Deaths. The parish was divided into 38 districts for the Christian Workers' Association, and the districts are listed, with the names of the streets, and the names and addresses of the district visitors. The Sunday School prize lists give the names of many of the children, arranged by class. Outstanding soldiers of the Royal Scots Fusiliers (1881-1901) Each year the best soldiers of the regiment were chosen for long service and good conduct medals. This register gives rank, name, regimental number, and date of recommendation. (The sample scan is from the East Surrey regiment). The register is essentially a register of recommendations, annotated with details of the issue of the medals. Where no gratuity accompanied the medal, the entry is marked 'W. G.' (without gratuity); where, for one reason or another, the medal was not issued, the entry is marked 'N. S.' (not sanctioned) and struck through. The regiment was based on the 21st Regimental District - Ayr. The 1st battalion returned from Bombay in 1881, and in 1885 was based at Aldershot. It was sent to Ireland in 1886; to Scotland in 1891; and back to England in 1893, returning to Aldershot. In 1896 the 1st battalion was dispatched to India, where it took part in the North West Frontier campaign. The 2nd battalion embarked for Natal 22 February 1879, took part in the Zulu war ("South Africa, 1879"), and in 1882 was sent on to India. The 2nd battalion was moved in 1884 to Burma, and in the Burmese Expedition of 1886 to 1887 added "Burma, 1885-1887" to the regimental honours. Returning to India, the battalion joined in the Hazara Expedition of 1888, and returned to England in 1896. The 2nd battalion was sent to South Africa in 1899, gaining the distinctions "South Africa, 1899-1902" and "Relief of Ladysmith". BRONSON. Cost: £8.00.	Sample scan, click to enlarge
