Blind students in Southwark, Surrey
(1851) Blind children and adults from all over England came to the School for the Indigent Blind in London Road, Southwark to learn crafts such as basket making and weaving. This is the census of those boarding there on the night of 30 March 1851. Students were instructed by oral information, and by books in raised or embossed letters; and were taught a trade, to enable them to procure their own living.
