| Dissolutions of partnerships in England and Wales

Perry's Bankrupt and Insolvent Gazette, issued monthly, included lists of dissolutions of partnerships gazetted in England and Wales. The names of the partners are given in full, surnames in capitals, followed by trade and address, and date of the end of the partnership. Each entry usually ends with the phrase 'Debts by ...', indicating which partner intended to continue, and resume the responsibilities of, the business. | Railway Subscription Contracts

£21,386,703 6s 4d was promised by about 10,000 subscribers of less than £2,000 per contract to the nearly 200 railway bills deposited in the Private Bill Office during the Session of Parliament for 1845. This alphabetical list gives the full names of the subscribers (surname first), description (i. e., occupation), place of abode, a numerical reference to the title of the railway, the amount subscribed to each, and total. | Manufacturers and Traders Petitioning the Mint
(1848)
This memorial of Manufacturers and Traders, mainly of London and Edinburgh, was presented to the Lords Commissioners of Her Majesty's Treasury, expressing 'their grateful satisfaction at the course pursued by your Lordships in regard to the Chinese treasure received as the ransom of Canton, whereby the gold contained in the Sycee silver and dollars was extracted at the Royal Mint and made beneficial to British interests', and urging that 'a similar refinement of the treasure since paid, or hereafter to be paid, as an indemnity by the Chinese, may be adopted, and that the price usually allowed in the London market for refining may be realized at once among British manufacturers, tradesmen, and artisans, before the bullion shall be sold to serve as a remittance either now or hereafter to foreign countries.' The petition is undated; was produced in evidence to a royal commission in 1848; and refers to the ransom of Canton, arising from the Treaty of Nanking 29 August 1842.EVERSFIELD. The 1851 census return for St Mary Newington, Surrey, registration district: St Peter Walworth sub-district: enumeration district 21: described as: "All that Part of the Parish of St. Mary Newington, which Comprises East St. (south side) from Pleasant Place to Hen & Chicken Lane, Trafalgar St. from Belgrade Place to South St, (north side) Including Sandford Row, Phoenix Place, Pleasant Row, and Nottingham Place." This area lay in the ecclesiastical district of St Peter Walworth, and in the borough of Lambeth. HO 107/1567. The addresses listed in the actual returns are 1 to 8 and 11 to 15 Norfolk Place, East Street; 1 to 12 Wellington Place, East Street; 1 to 10 South Street, East Street; 1 to 19 Pleasant Row; 1 to 10 Nottingham Place; Phoenix Cottage; 1 and 2 Phoenix Place; 1 to 9 Sandford Row; 1 to 31 and 46 to 52 Trafalgar Street; Apollo Cottage; 1 to 25 Apollo Buildings; and 13 to 28 Prior Place.EVERSFIELD. | Sailors and marines on H. M. S. Sphinx in the Crimean War
(1854-1856)
Sebastopol in the Crimea was the great Russian naval arsenal on the Black Sea. A combined assault by British, French and Turkish troops resulted in the reduction of Sebastopol and led to the Treaty of Paris of 27 April 1856, guaranteeing the independence of the Ottoman Empire. By Admiralty Order the Crimea Medal was awarded to sailors and marines present during the campaign, between 17 September 1854 (the first landing at Eupatoria) and 9 September 1855 (when the allies secured Sebastopol). The sailors' medals were mostly delivered to them on board ship in the course of 1856; the marines' medals were sent to their respective headquarters for distribution. The remarks as to distribution in this medal roll therefore give more specific information as to the whereabouts of the sailor recipients in 1856 than about the marines. Her Majesty's Ship Sphinx (Sphynx), a 6-gun steam sloop, took part in the assault. Four clasps to this medal were awarded to the men present in the actions at Sebastopol itself, Inkerman, Balaklave (Balaclava) and (the sea of) Azoff, but the recipients of these clasps are recorded on separate rolls, not part of this index, but indexed on this site.EVERSFIELD.
