The Committee of Council on Education awarded certificates of merit to teachers throughout Britain, and published annual lists of those qualifying in the previous years. Masters and mistresses are listed separately, with surname and initials, and school at which teaching, post town or county, and grade of the certificate: each of the three classes of certificate being subdivided into three. There are five separate lists for masters and mistresses:
1. Teachers in schools in connexion with the Church of England; male students in the Training Schools of the National Society, and of the several Diocesan Boards of Education; and female students in the Training Schools of the National Society (Whitelands, Chelsea), the Home and Colonial School Society (Gray's Inn Road, Holborn), and the Salisbury and York and Ripon Diocesan Boards of Education.
2. Teachers, in England and Wales, of British, Wesleyan and other Protestant Schools, not in connexion with the Church of England;
3. Teachers, in England and Wales, of Roman Catholic Schools;
4. Teachers of schools in Scotland, in connexion with the Established Church; male students in the Edinburgh and Glasgow Training Colleges; and female students in training schools.
5. Teachers of schools in Scotland, not in connexion with the Established Church; male students in the Training Schools of the Free Church (at Edinburgh and Glasgow); and female students in training schools.

The 1851 census return for St George the Martyr, Southwark, registration district: London Road sub-district: enumeration district 13: described as: "Johnston's Buildings - Obelisk Yard - Waterloo Road (east side) to Munroe's, end of Parish (West side) commencing at the Cabinet Maker's corner of Whiting St to Procters, end of Road - Duke St (north side) from Locksmith's to No 49 and Bale's Court." This area lay in the parish of St George the Martyr, Southwark. The addresses listed in the actual returns are 1 to 4 Johnston's Buildings, 1 to 18 Obelisk Yard, 1 to 6 Obelisk Buildings, 1 to 15 James Terrace, 1 to 10 Brighton Place, 1 to 6 Haddow Place, 1 to 5 Oxford Place, 2 to 22, 34 to 36 and 81 to 85 Waterloo Road, 29 to 35 Oxford Terrace, The George, 1 to 5 Paget Place, 49 to 75 Duke Street, and 2 to 3 Bales Court.BEEZLEY. The Poll Book for North Lincolnshire (Lindsey) in the General Election of 1852 was prepared from the poll clerks' lists, and so is arranged polling district by polling district, and within those by township or parish, but with non-voters listed separately at the end of each polling district. The 9,620 voters are listed not by residence, but by the parish or township in which lay the property that gave the right to vote: consequently 260 electors appear twice on the register. 1,797 did not vote. Many of the electors lived outside the area, or even outside the county. The names are listed roughly alphabetically by surname, with christian name, residence and occupation: with a key to the nature of their property (freehold fr, rented rt, or copyhold ch), and for whom the votes were cast (CR.: Rt. Hon. R. A. Christopher, who received 5,585 votes; CH.: Sir Montague J. Cholmeley, 4,777; S.: James Banks Stanhope, 5,575). Each elector had two votes.
