Among the papers surviving at Browsholme Hall in 1815 was this list of the militia from a group of townships in Staincliffe wapentake of the West Riding of Yorkshire - Slaidburn, Bowland Forest, Easington and Newton in Slaidburn parish; Grindleton, Mitton cum Bashall and Waddington cum Bradford in Mitton parish; and Rathmell from Giggleswick parish. There are central registers for collections of the stamp duty in London, as well as returns from collectors in the provinces. These collectors generally received duty just from their own county, but sometimes from further afield. The indentures themselves can date from a year or two earlier than this return. (The sample entry shown on this scan is taken from a Bristol return.
