Bahamas Slave Owners (1838)
Slavery was abolished throughout the British Empire by act of Parliament in 1833. This list, published in 1838, gives details of compensation paid to owners who had suffered by the emancipation of their slaves after abolition. The table gives the date of the award, the number of the claim, the full name of the party to whom payment was awarded, the number of slaves, and the sum paid. Few masters had owned more than 100 slaves; most of the claimants had only a few. The cost of the loss of a single slave was generally assessed here at £13-£17. There were 1100 claims from Bahamas, including some that were abandoned, disallowed, or still unsettled because of litigation.

The Royal Agricultural Society of England was founded in 1840 and rapidly attracted a wide membership of agriculturists. This list of members who joined between 1840 and 1841 was printed in the second volume of the society's journal. It gives each member's name in full (surname first), town residence (if any), and country residence.

The Camden Society for the Publication of Early Historical and Literary Remains was one of the leading antiquarian societies of its age. 1200 members paid £1 per annum in advance and received gratis whatever volumes were published by the society during the year. Members who paid an additional £10 thereby compounded for future subscription, and are indicated in this membership list (corrected to 2 May 1844) by the letter (c.).WHEWELL. Joseph Romilly, registrar of the university of Cambridge, compiled Graduati Cantabrigienses, a catalogue of graduates from the academic year of admissions 1760 through to 10 October 1846. The names are arranged alphabetically by surname, and then chronologically by christian name: the college is given, with an asterisk in those cases where the man became a fellow, and then, in chronological order, his degrees.
