Inhabitants of Newington in Surrey (1851) The 1851 census return for St Mary Newington, Surrey, registration district: St Peter Walworth sub-district: enumeration district 20: described as: "All that Part of the Parish of St. Mary Newington, which Comprises George St. (both sides), Richmond St. (East side), East St. (south side) to Pleasant Place, Including Pleasant Place, Belgrade Place (both sides) & Nottingham Walk". This area lay in the ecclesiastical district of St Peter Walworth, and in the borough of Lambeth. HO 107/1567. The addresses listed in the actual returns are 1 to 40 and 60 to 62 George Street (including Pear Tree Cottage and Trafalgar Cottage); 1 to 22 Richmond Street (including Richmond Cottage); 3 Little George Street; 1 to 10 East Street; 1 to 4 Pleasant Row (including White Cottage); 1 to 16 Belgrave (Belgrade) Place; Brights Cottage; 1 to 3 East Lane; Southampton Cottage; 2 to 3 Sandford Row; and 1 Sandford Cottages. Insolvents in Debtors' Prison, Whitecross Street, London (1853) Perry's Bankrupt and Insolvent Gazette was issued monthly on the 1st of each month. Volume 28, for 1853, comprises issues numbers 325 to 336. The contents, compiled from the official sources, are mainly summaries of proceedings in the bankruptcy and insolvency courts, names of creditors, dissolution of partnerships and similar matters that would be of interest to the commercial world and their solicitors. This section, entitled 'Estates vested in Provisional Assignees' lists insolvents whose cases were dealt with in the Insolvent Court, whether on their own petitions or those of creditors. These twelve monthly issues cover the proceedings of the court from 4 December 1852 to 26 November 1853. Within each session the insolvents are listed alphabetically by surname, with address, occupation, and the name of the prison in which then held. SEEAR. Cost: £4.00.	Sample scan, click to enlarge

Gentry in London (1856) The Post Office London Directory for 1856 includes this 'Court Directory', listing alphabetically by surname and christian name the upper class residents of the capital with their postal addresses. 'In order to afford space for the addresses, the abbreviation "esq." for esquire has no longer been appended to each name in the Court Directory. It should be understood that such should be added to the name of every gentleman in the following pages to which no inconsistent addition is affixed.' Decorations, honours &c. are generally given. Some gentlemen appear who are also listed (as professional men, &c.) in the commercial section. Those with second residences in the provinces usually have the country address given as well. SEEAR. Bankruptcies (1883-1884) Volume 76 of The Law Times, 'The Journal of The Law and The Lawyers', a weekly publication, runs from 3 November 1883 to 26 April 1884. Much of the journal is taken up with law reports, leading articles, &c., and the 'Solicitors' Department' contains several regular features of great interest. Lists of bankrupts, liquidations by arrangement, dividends and orders of discharge extracted from the London Gazette were published each week, and these have been indexed both for the principals and their solicitors.
