Treasury Books
(1697)
Records of the Treasury administration in Britain and the colonies, from April to September 1697. These include records of the appointment and replacement of customs officers such as tide waiters and surveyors. The calendar was prepared by William A. Shaw for the Lords Commissioners of His Majesty's Treasury and published in 1933, from Treasury Minute Book ix (T29/9); King's Warrant Book xix (T52/19); Money Book xiii (T53/13); Order Book iv (T60/4); Disposition Book xiii (T61/13); Out Letters (General) xv (T27/15); Out Letters (Customs) xiii (T11/13); Reference Book vii (Index 4621); Warrants not Relating to Money xv (T54/15); Out Letters (Ireland) vii (T14/7); Caveat Book i (T64/40); and Out Letters (Plantations Auditor) i (T64/88).

Hertfordshire Sessions
(1581-1700)
Incidents from the Hertfordshire Sessions Rolls. These cover a wide range of criminal and civil business for the county, with presentments, petitions, and recognizances to appear as witnesses: many of the records concern the county authorities dealing with regulation of alehouses, religious conventicles, absence from church, highways, poaching, profanation of the Sabbath, exercising trades without due apprenticeship &c. Unlike the Sessions Books, the decisions of the justices are not recorded on the rolls, which serve more as a record of evidence and allegations. Where the date of a roll is given with an asterisk, it indicates that that particular document was not then in the county muniments, but in the archives of the Marquess of Salisbury (whose ancestors had served as Custos Rotulorum) at Hatfield House. This is a calendar of abstracts of extracts: it is by no means a completely comprehensive record of the surviving Hertfordshire sessions rolls of the period, but coverage is good. PENNYFATHER. These cover a wide range of criminal and civil business for the county: numerically, the the most cases (759) concerned not attending church; presentments about repairs to roads and bridges (247); unlicensed and disorderly alehouses (226); assault (156); badgers, higlers, &c., trading without licence (142); and trading without due apprenticeship (117). Inhabitants of Hertfordshire
(1723)
An Act of Parliament of 9 George I required all men aged 18 and over who had not done so previously to swear allegiance. From 17 August to 24 December 1723 the greater part of the men of Hertfordshire attended at various inns in the county to sign the oath of allegiance: women were exempt from the act, but almost as many attended and swore. This list indicates the place of attestation by letters A., B., C., &c., for which there is a key, scans of which are included with the main scan for the surname. PENNYFATHER.
