B. Hotham and printed in 1912 in continuation of the volumes issued under the authority of the Historical Manuscripts Commission.

Private bills dealing with divorce, disputed and entailed estates: petitions, reports and commissions: naturalisation proceedings. This abstract of the archives from the first and second Session of the second Parliament of Great Britain, 16 November 1708 to 5 April 1710, was prepared by F. W. Lascelles and C. K. Davidson and printed in 1923 in continuation of the volumes issued under the authority of the Historical Manuscripts Commission. The source materials are the manuscript minutes of proceedings, called the Lords Journal (MS. Min.); manuscript minutes of Select Committee proceedings (Com. Book); manuscript minutes of the Committee for Privileges (Priv. Book); the Long Calendar list of acts public and private consecutively by regnal year; and the Folio Edition of Statutes of the Realm. The proceedings are cross-referenced to the printed Lords Journal (L. J.). The greater part of this volume is taken up with the papers laid before the House relating to an expedition fitted out by king Louis XIV of France in an unsuccessful attempt to establish the Pretender on the throne of Scotland in March 1708. There are central registers for collections of the stamp duty in London, as well as returns from collectors in the provinces. These collectors generally received duty just from their own county, but sometimes from further afield. May 1710 to January 1712. Tripos lists or examination results for the year, arranged by class (Wranglers, Senior Optimes and Junior Optimes), and within each class in order of score in the examination. Each student's surname and college is given: this list was printed in 1890, and was annotated with asterisks to show which students had subsequently become fellows of the university; and with footnotes showing those who became headmasters, &c., elsewhere. Recipients of the Chancellor's Medals are annotated with (A) for the senior medal, (B) for the junior. These lists are particularly useful in identifying for an individual the fellow-students who will have attended lectures with him; and, where from the college, are likely to have been even more closely associated by having been under the same supervisor. | Herefordshire Freeholders Deploring the American Rebellion

In December 1775 this address of the sheriff, gentlemen, clergy and freeholders of Herefordshire was presented to king George III: 'To confirm the Liberties of Britain by the Establishment of the Legislative Powers of Parliament, our Ancestors sacrificed their Blood; and to secure those Liberties to their Posterity, transferred the Succession to the Crown to your Majesty’s Family. - To defend and maintain those Powers, we look up to your Majesty as the great Guardian of our Constitution; and permit us to assure your Majesty, that we shall chearfully concur in every Support which our Duty may call for, or our Abilities can furnish, towards the Success of your Majesty’s Arms over your rebellious Subjects; at the same Time most ardently wishing, that your Majesty’s gracious Offers of Mercy, together with the firm Support of your dutiful and loyal Subjects, may influence the Hearts of the Rebellious to return to their Duty and Allegiance; and that your whole People reunited may, with us, be convinced, that to be a British Subject, with all its Consequences, is to be the freest Member of any Civil Society in the World. And we pray to God, that your Majesty and your Progeny may long reign over these Realms in undisturbed Peace and undiminished Splendor.'
