General shipping news from Lloyd's List, largely about ships in distress or wrecked, or spoken with on the high seas, usually identifies them by the ship's name and the surname of the captain.

Masters of Merchantmen at Charleston (1788)
The custom house at Charleston, South Carolina, reported ships entered inwards, cleared outwards and sailed. These give the type of vessel, the name of the vessel, surname of the master, and (for ships arriving) whence they had come, or (for ships departing) their proposed destination. Most of the traffic was with other American ports (over 700 ships a year), Britain (about 150), and the West Indies.

Boys entering Rugby School
(1789)
This edition of Rugby School Register was published in 1933: the volume covering 1675 to 1857 contains 6480 entries, based on the original school admission registers, but elaborated with general biographical information wherever the editor was able to do so. The entries for the 17th and early 18th centuries are much less detailed than those for later years. The arrangement of the fullest entries was to give the boy's full name (surname first, in bold); whether eldest, second, &c., son; father's name and address as of when the boy entered school; the boy's age at entry and birthday; name of the house (in the school) to which he belonged; then a brief general biography; and date and place of death. Friends of the Establishment in Suffolk
(1790)
On 23 February 1790 at Stowmarket 'a very numerous and respectable Meeting of the Friends to the present Establishment in Church and State' was held 'to consider of the most effectual means for supporting our excellent Constitution'. Seven resolutions were passed, a key one being 'That confining public employments and places of trust to persons professing the Established Religion, is expedient for the public good; as justice and reason naturally point out a preference to those subjects whose attachment to the constitution is perfect and unequivocal, rather than to those who comply in part only with the laws of this country'. Well over 200 subscribed, their names and the resolutions being subsequently published in several London and provincial newspapers.
