The Wesleyan-Methodist Magazine was issued monthly, and much of its contents related to obituaries of the faithful: memoirs and portraits of featured preachers; biographical sketches; recent deaths; and notices from the annual conference of ministers dying during the past year. | Wesleyan Ministers
(1867)
The Wesleyan Methodist church in England and Ireland held annual conferences, abbreviated minutes of which were printed in the Wesleyan Methodist Magazine of September and October each year. These minutes include a complete list of the stations of the ministers for the coming year, with the names of the preachers 'on trial' and supernumeraries, arranged by district. The 32 British districts are covered, but not the ministers in Ireland or abroad. | Sample scan, click to enlarge
|  Outstanding soldiers of the 8th regiment of Foot
(1860-1870)
The 8th (The King's) Regiment of Foot was in two battalions. The 1st battalion embarked for Bombay in 1846, took part in the capture of Delhi and the relief of Lucknow, and returned to England in 1860. The home depot was at Chatham. The battalion moved to Ireland for 1865-1866, and then embarked from England to Malta in 1868. The second battalion was based at Templemore in Ireland, but was sent abroad in 1858, and served on Gibraltar to 1863, on Malta to 1868, then returning to England. Each year just a handful of outstanding soldiers of the regiment were chosen for good conduct medals and gratuities: these are listed here. There were two lists, one for men recommended for the Good Conduct Medal without a gratuity, and one for gratuities - £5 to a private, £10 to a corporal, and £15 to a serjeant. The matriculation list of the University of London published in January 1870 shows all the students entering the university 1865 to 1869, but who had not yet taken an examination. Gun & Co. of 6 Prince of Wales' Road, London, in about 1870 published this fifth 'List of Next of Kin & Heirs, &c., who have been Advertised for in the English, Irish, Scotch, United States of America, Canadian, Australian, East and West Indian, and other Newspapers, since 1704. Money & Property to the value of many Millions Sterling want Claimants'. The list of 4,128 names gives surname, christian name, and, occasionally, locality. The New Zealand War Medal was awarded for service New Zealand campaign 1861 to 1866: this further progress report issued by the medal committee in Wellington 2 September 1871 lists officers and men of the colonial forces who had made application for the medal for services rendered prior to 31 December 1866, and whose claims had been admitted by the commissioners; as well as those whose claims had been rejected (with the reason); and also those officers and men included in the rolls formed by the late commissioners whose names also appear in the lists of those granted medals by the Imperial Government. | Sample scan, click to enlarge

This First Volume of the Second Series of the Harrow School Register was edited by J. H. Stogdon and published in 1925. The boys are listed by term of entrance, and then alphabetically by surname and christian names (in bold). Next, in brackets and in italics, is the school house to which he belonged - or, H. B. indicating a day boy whose family lived in Harrow. Stogdon then gives the father's surname and initials, and address. In cases where the boy was prominent in sports at school, or won academic prizes, scholarships &c., that is given; then the year of leaving the school; and a synopsis of his career, so far as known.
