Outstanding farmers, breeders and inventors in Cumberland and the Isle of Man
(1805-1810) F. Jollie and Sons of Carlisle printed this Cumberland Guide and Directory 'containing a Descriptive Tour through the County, and a List of Persons in Public and Private Situations in every Principal Place in the County'. The sample scan is from the Carlisle directory. In amongst the directory lists there is an excursus about the Workington Agricultural Society, which was promoting advances in farming, breeding, horticulture and implement-making in Cumberland, and also had an active branch on the Isle of Man, which became called the Manx Society.
