Electors for Wootton Wawen (1868) A poll for the election of two knights of the shire to represent South Warwickshire was held 24 November 1868: the candidates were Lord Hyde (H.), Sir R. N. C. Hamilton (H.), H. C. Wise, Esq. (W.) and John Hardy, Esq. (H.). This poll book lists all those electors who voted; the county franchise included not only male freeholders of 40s a year, but also Ł10 copyholders and long-leaseholders, and Ł50 short-leaseholders and tenants. In addition, where no vote was cast the elector's number and name are given, the name in italics. The names are arranged by polling district and then by parish or township. Freeholders holding requisite property in a district are listed there, but might well reside elsewhere. The right-hand column indicates how each man voted. SWINBOURNE. Cost: £4.00. Long-Lost Relatives: Home Inquiries (1900) Each issue of Lloyd's Weekly News, of London, contained a column devoted to searches for Long-Lost Relatives. The inquiries were arranged in three groups: Home Inquiries (i. e., from correspondents in the United Kingdom); Colonial and Foreign Inquiries (from abroad); and Soldiers' and Sailors' Inquiries. Results from all these were grouped together as 'Answers to Inquiries'. Each column was headed: 'Correspondents MUST give full addresses and the DATES OF THE INQUIRIES to which they refer. We cannot search back numbers, nor print inquiries for "missing husbands." These columns are not intended for inquiries in respect to claimants for money, and no agents, at home or abroad, have any connection with Lloyd's.' SWINBOURNE. Cost: £6.00. Outstanding soldiers of the King's (Liverpool Regiment) (1881-1901) Each year the best soldiers of the regiment were chosen for long service and good conduct medals. This register gives rank, name, regimental number, and date of recommendation. (The sample scan is from the East Surrey regiment). The register is essentially a register of recommendations, annotated with details of the issue of the medals. Where no gratuity accompanied the medal, the entry is marked 'W. G.' (without gratuity); where, for one reason or another, the medal was not issued, the entry is marked 'N. S.' (not sanctioned) and struck through. The regiment was based on the 8th Regimental District - Warrington. The 1st battalion returned from Aden to England in September 1879, moved to Ireland in 1882, and in 1885 was stationed at the Curragh. Having moved back to England in 1889, 11 February 1891 it embarked for Bermuda, and in 1893 went from there to Halifax, Nova Scotia. In 1895 the battalion was transferred to the West Indies, and in 1897 to the Cape of Good Hope, taking part in the South African war and gaining the honours "South Africa, 1899-1902" and "Defence of Ladysmith". The 2nd battalion embarked for India in September 1877, took part in the Afghan war of 1878 to 1880 (gaining the honours "Peiwar Kotal" and "Afghanistan, 1878-1880"), and by 1885 was stationed at Ranikhot; serving in Burmah for a period ("Burmah, 1885-1887"). The battalion returned from India via Aden 13 November 1892, and in 1895 was at Colchester. In 1897 the 2nd battalion was moved to Ireland. SWINBOURNE. Cost: £8.00.	Sample scan, click to enlarge

This nominal roll lists all the warrant officers, non-commissioned officers and men killed in action, or who died of wounds or disease, in the European war of 1914 to 1918.
