Apprenticeship indentures and clerks' articles were subject to a 6d or 12d per pound stamp duty: the registers of the payments usually give the master's trade, address, and occupation, and the apprentice's name, as well as details of the date and length of the apprenticeship. 26 August to 30 December 1778. Soldiers, administrators, refugees and merchants in America (1767-1779)
These are the headquarters papers of sir William Howe and sir Henry Clinton, successive British commanders-in-chief during the American war of independence. Many of the individuals recorded were part of the British military administration, but others are refugees and merchants whose lives had been disrupted by the conflict.

The parish of Morden lay in Wallington hundred of Surrey, and in Surrey archdeaconry of the diocese of Winchester. F. Clayton prepared this transcript of the four earliest surviving registers, which was privately printed for the Parish Register Society as their 37th volume in 1901.

The custom house at Charleston, South Carolina, reported ships entered inwards, cleared outwards and sailed. These give the type of vessel, the name of the vessel, surname of the master, and (for ships arriving) whence they had come, or (for ships departing) their proposed destination. Most of the traffic was with other American ports (over 700 ships a year), Britain (about 150), and the West Indies.

The Universal British Directory includes a list of the nobility, gentry, &c. in London and Westminster: esquires, i. e., gentlemen without titles, are sometimes listed without their christian names.

The provincial sections of the Universal British Directory include lists of gentry and traders from each town and the surrounding countryside, with names of local surgeons, lawyers, postmasters, carriers, &c. (the sample scan here is from the section for Hull). The directory started publication in 1791, but was not completed for some years, and the provincial lists, sent in by local agents, can date back as early as 1790 and as late as 1797.
