Indian Civil Servants (1904)
The India List and India Office List was compiled from official records by direction of the Secretary of State for India in Council, and published by the India Office annually. The volume for 1905 includes this Record of Services, corrected to 1 July 1904. It includes Officers of the Home Establishment of the Secretary of State, Officers of the Covenanted Civil Service, and those appointed under the Native Civil Service Rules, other Officers in Civil Employment in India whose substantive pay was at least 1000 rupees a month, and, with a few exceptions, all officers of those classes who had retired since 1886.

The number after the name of the ship denotes the number of guns of 4-inch calibre and upwards. The tons represents the displacement tonnage. A letter P. in bold denotes Paddle Wheel; S. Single Screw. The italic abbreviations are F. D. Forced Draught; I. H. P. Indicated Horse Power; N. D. Natural Draught. All officers whose names are in italics are borne as supernumeraries or additions. (G) against an officer's name denotes that he is borne for gunnery duties; (N) navigating; (T) torpedo. In the cases where two dates are shown against the names of marine officers, the date in brackets is that from which his present sea time commenced.

The Monthly Naval List for November 1904, printed By Authority for the Admiralty, contains this Alphabetical List of the Officers on the Active List of the Royal Navy and the Royal Marines with the Dates of their Seniority. The first column 'Where serving' gives the number of the ship; the second column gives full name, surname first, but with middle names represented only by initials; the third column rank; and the fourth column seniority, i. e., the date of attaining that rank. Lieutenants whose seniorities are printed in italics are on the Supplementary List, and Engineer Lieutenants whose seniorities are printed are those not yet advanced.

The list is arranged by rank, and then by date of seniority: full names, including full middle names, are given. Each name is preceded (where appropriate) by the number of the ship in which serving; an 'm' indicating the holder was entitled to wear a medal; one or more asterisks for officers authorized to hold foreign orders. (C) after the name denotes an officer who had obtained his lieutenant's commission by competition at the Royal Naval College; (E) one who had obtained the same for meritorious examination there; or (G) one who had received an honorary certificate or had qualified as a Gunnery or Torpedo Lieutenant. The India List and India Office List was compiled from official records by direction of the Secretary of State for India in Council, and published by the India Office annually. It covers civil servants and military except for officers drawing substantive pay of less than 500 rupees a month. Names shown in italics are those of officers in foreign service, supernumerary, seconded or employed outside their own departments. This list, for Central India, includes residents and agents in Indore, Gwalior, Bhopal, Bundelkhand, Baghelkhand, Bhopawur, Malwa, Mhow, Neemuch and Nowgong.

Names shown in italics are those of officers in foreign service, supernumerary, seconded or employed outside their own departments. This list, for the Forest Department of the lieutenant-governorship of Burma, includes conservators from the Imperial Forest Service and the Provincial Forest Service.

Missing Next-of-Kin and Heirs-at-Law (1905)
The Unclaimed Money Registry and Next-of-Kin Advertisement Office of F. H. Dougal & Co., on the Strand in London, published a comprehensive 'Index to Advertisements for Next of Kin, Heirs at Law, Legatees, &c., &c., who have been Advertised for to Claim Money and Property in Great Britain and all Parts of the World; also Annuitants, Shareholders, Intestates, Testators, Missing Friends, Creditors or their Representatives, Claimants, Unclaimed and Reclaimed Dividends and Stock, Citations, Administrations, Rewards for Certificates, Wills, Advertisements, &c., Claims, Unclaimed Balances, Packages, Addresses, Parish Clerks' Notices, Foreign Intestates, &c., &c.' The original list was compiled about 1880, but from materials dating back even into the 18th century: most of the references belong to 1850 to 1880. For each entry only a name is given, sometimes with a placename added in brackets: there may be a reference number, but there is no key by which the original advertisement may be traced. The enquirer of the time had to remit £1 for a 'Full and Authentic Copy of the Original Advertisement, together with name and date of newspaper in which the same appeared'. This appendix to the list was issued in about 1905.

This edition of the Brighton College Register was published in 1922. The plan of the publication was to list boys by year or, later, term of entry. Each name is assigned a sequential number, 5000 boys, in all, being recorded. Full name is given (surname first, in bold); year of birth; year of leaving; and then (wherever the compiler had such information) a short biography, ending with date of death, where known.
