The Post Office Directory of Birmingham with its Suburbs, edited by E. R. Kelly, and published in 1878, has two main alphabetical lists - Court and Commercial. The suburbs included are Aston, Bickenhill Park, Birchfield End, Castle Bromwich, Erdington, Saltley (with Washwood Heath), Ward End (including Little Bromwich) and Witton, in Warwickshire; Handsworth (with Soho), Harborne, Perry Barr and Smethwick, in Staffordshire; and King's Heath, King's Norton, Moseley, Northfield, Selly Oak and Yardley (including Hall Green and Stechford) in Worcestershire. The annual Dentists Register, 'Printed and Published under the Direction of The General Council of Medical Education and Registration of the United Kingdom, Pursuant to an Act Passed in the Year XLI & XLII Victoriæ, Cap. XXXIII, Entitled An Act to Amend the Law relating to Dental Practioners' included a section listing all current dental students. This gives full name (surname first, in capitals); preliminary examination in Arts, with date thereof; date of registration; place and date of commencement of medical or dental study, as certified by a master, or a teacher, or an official in a medical or dental school or hospital. In a few cases there is a dagger before the name: this indicates students from before 1 October 1885 (when it still was only optional) who took the subject of Elementary Mechanics.CAVE-BROWN-CAVE. Kelly's Directory of Surrey includes this alphabetical Court Directory, listing private residents in the county. In fact, this listing is a little more comprehensive than the main directory, in that it includes residents of some London suburbs that, although in the county of Surrey, are not included in the Surrey directory. The Monthly Naval List for November 1904, printed By Authority for the Admiralty, contains this Alphabetical List of the Officers on the Active List of the Royal Navy and the Royal Marines with the Dates of their Seniority. The first column 'Where serving' gives the number of the ship; the second column gives full name, surname first, but with middle names represented only by initials; the third column rank; and the fourth column seniority, i. e., the date of attaining that rank. Lieutenants whose seniorities are printed in italics are on the Supplementary List, and Engineer Lieutenants whose seniorities are printed are those not yet advanced.CAVE-BROWN-CAVE. | War Services of British Army Officers
(1915)
Hart's Annual Army List, Special Reserve List and Territorial Force List for 1915 includes this section entitled 'War Services of the Officers of the Active List', covering not only serving officers of the regular army, but also officers of the militia (marked (m)), special reserve (r), territorials (t), volunteers (v) and yeomanry (y). The detailed descriptions of the officers' war services relate not to the Great War, but to previous campaigns, particularly those in South Africa, Egypt, India and China. | Chartered Electrical Engineers (M. I. E. E.)

The Institution of Electrical Engineers was founded in 1871 under the name of The Society of Telegraph Engineers, and incorporated by royal charter in 1921. The list of members, corrected to 1 September 1939, gives the names and addresses of the various grades of members. Members (M. I. E. E.) and Associate Members (A. M. I. E. E.) were entitled to describe themselves as Chartered Electrical Engineers. Then there are the Associates (Associate I. E. E.), Companions (Companion I. E. E.), Graduates (Graduate I. E. E.) and Students (Student I. E. E.). The names are given in bold, surname first; before each name is the year of attaining that grade; and for the higher grades the year of each lower grade is also given, e. g.
