Runaway Convicts, New South Wales (1836)
Many convicts transported to Australia subsequently absconded from custody or from farmers or traders with whom they had been put to work. The Principal Superintendent of Convicts for New South Wales issued detailed notices to the public 'to use their utmost exertion in apprehending and lodging them in safe custody' and warning against harbouring or employing them. The lists give full name (surname first); name of the transport ship by which the convict had been deported to Australia; number; age; birthplace; trade or profession; height; appearance (complexion, hair, eyes); and a brief description of how or where absconded. January 1836.

Dominica Slave Owners (1838)
Slavery was abolished throughout the British Empire by act of Parliament in 1833. This list, published in 1838, gives details of compensation paid to owners who had suffered by the emancipation of their slaves after abolition. The table gives the date of the award, the number of the claim, the full name of the party to whom payment was awarded, the number of slaves, and the sum paid. Few masters had owned more than 100 slaves; most of the claimants had only a few. The cost of the loss of a single slave was generally assessed at about £20. There were 1030 claims from Dominica, including some that were abandoned, disallowed, or still unsettled because of litigation.

Boys entering Sedbergh School (1839)
B. Wilson prepared this edition of the register of the Grammar School at Sedbergh in the West Riding of Yorkshire, published in 1895. Sedbergh school had three exhibitions at St John's College, Cambridge, and for the earliest years little more could be found about the pupils at the school than was recorded at St John's or other colleges. In 1700-1706 the first material from Sedbergh appears, but no more than lists of surnames. From 1746 onwards full names, or surnames and initials, are found for those boys who did not continue to university. It is only from 1820 onwards that the school register starts to give detail: month of entry, age, birthplace, and month of leaving. From then onwards Wilson was able to add more and more biographical detail, except, of course, for those boys in 1895 still at the school or with their careers yet ahead of them.
