Congregationalist Ministers: Calls Accepted
(1868-1869)
In 'The Christian Witness and Congregational Magazine', published monthly, was a section called 'The Congregational Register', detailing recent Congregationalist activity at home and abroad. It included Ordinations; Recognitions (services when a new minister is introduced to his congregation); Calls Accepted (newly-qualified theological students are appointed to their first posts); Removals (of ministers from one place to another); Resignations; Deaths of Ministers; Deaths of Ministers' Wives; Deaths of Ministers' Widows; and Testimonials (presentations by congregations to long-serving or departing ministers). Precise dates and places are usually given in the case of ordinations, recognition services and deaths. The ministers are referred to by surname and initials; the ministers' wives and widows are never given christian name or initials.  Men of the Lanarkshire Regiment who fought in the New Zealand War
(1845-1870)
New Zealand War Medal roll for the 99th (Lanarkshire) Regiment of Foot: for service in the New Zealand campaign: the rolls were compiled following a general order in 1869 and the medals were distributed in 1870. The regiment had been sent to Tasmania in 1842 and was moved to New Zealand in 1845; the men returned to their depot at Cork in Ireland, 29 May 1856. The main New Zealand campaign took place in 1863 to 1866, but in 1870 there remained some men in the regiment able to claim the medal on account of their service in New Zealand in 1845 to 1856.BLACKBURN. Outstanding soldiers of the 28th regiment of Foot
(1860-1870)
The 28th (The North Gloucestershire) Regiment of Foot embarked for Turkey in 1854, and took part in the Crimean War; then to Malta in 1856; and thence to India. It was stationed at Ahmednuggur in 1860. The regiment returned to England in 1865, and in 1867 to Ireland: the depot was at Fermoy. In 1868 the troops were sent to Gibraltar. Each year just a handful of outstanding soldiers of the regiment were chosen for good conduct medals and gratuities: these are listed here. There were two lists, one for men recommended for the Good Conduct Medal without a gratuity, and one for gratuities - £5 to a private, £10 to a corporal, and £15 to a serjeant. The Baptist Messenger was produced monthly. The material indexed is mainly the Denominational Intelligence, i. e. the doings of the Baptist churches in Britain and Ireland, including summary lists of baptisms naming only the ministers. Boys entering Clifton College

Clifton College near Bristol was established in 1862. This edition of the Clifton College Annals and Register for the Old Cliftonian Society by F. Borwick was published in 1925. Boys are listed alphabetically by term of entry, with full names, surname first, in bold. Father's (or widowed mother's) name is given (surname and initials) in capitals, and address. Then there is the name of the house (N. T., North Town; S. H., School House; S. T., South Town), first and last forms, distinctions in school work and games, and month of leaving.
