Petitioning Creditors and Solicitors
(1828-1829)
Principal creditors petitioning to force a bankruptcy (but often close relatives of the bankrupt helping to protect his assets). Perry's Bankrupt and Insolvent Gazette was printed monthly for subscribers only, and included a section entitled Bankrupts, summarizing notices of bankruptcy proceedings. Volume 4, for 1829, covers bankruptcies gazetted from 2 December 1828 to 24 November 1829. The Gazette provided an index to the names of the principal bankrupts, but we have prepared this index to the names of the principal creditors, together with some stray names and solicitors from the records.

London and Middlesex crimes tried at the Central Criminal Court: victims and witnesses

Henry Buckler copied in shorthand the proceedings of trials at the Central Criminal Court in London, and his transcripts were printed. This volume (iii), from 1836, covers sessions i to vi of the Copeland mayoralty of 1835 to 1836. The bulk of the cases were from London and Middlesex, with separate sections for Essex, Kent and Surrey, but, preceding all these, Capital Convictions. The names of the accused are annotated with an asterisk to show if they had previously been in custody; an obelisk indicates a known associate of bad characters. Most cases resulted in a guilty verdict, and a large proportion of these led to a sentence of transportation to Australia. Chester Junction Railway Shareholders

The return of the railway subscription contracts deposited in the Private Bill Office lists the shareholders in the Chester Junction Railway, subscribers to shares amounting to £216,850 towards the £371,000 estimated expense of the project. Manchester South Union Railway Shareholders
(1837)
The return of the railway subscription contracts deposited in the Private Bill Office lists the shareholders in the Manchester South Union Railway, subscribers to shares towards the £2,000,000 estimated expense of the project. The list gives full name of each subscriber (or surname with initials), address, designation (i. e., occupation), number of shares, and amount.

The provincial banks of England and Wales made annual returns to the Stamp Office of their proprietors or shareholders.
