Liverpool Voters: Burgesses and Freemen (1832)
A poll for the election of Members of Parliament for the Borough of Liverpool, between William Ewart esquire (E), Lord Viscount Sandon (S), Thomas Thornely esquire (T) and Major-General Sir Howard Douglas, baronet (D), took place on 12 and 13 December 1832. The poll book lists all voters with full name (surname first), occupation, address, and initials indicating for whom they voted. The lists are in six sections: Everton, Kirkdale, the parish of Liverpool, Toxteth Park, West Derby, and Liverpool burgesses and freemen. All householders of property worth £10 a year of more were entitled to vote.

Over 1600 inhabitants of Liverpool signed this petition to the Mayor, 14 November 1850, to 'call a Public Meeting, for the purpose of adopting an Address to the Queen, praying her Majesty to take such steps as may be deemed necessary to maintain the prerogative of the Crown against all Papal aggression.'

Each year the best soldiers of the corps were chosen for long service and good conduct medals. This register gives rank, name, regimental number, and date of recommendation. (The sample scan is from the East Surrey regiment). The register is essentially a register of recommendations, annotated with details of the issue of the medals. Where no gratuity accompanied the medal, the entry is marked 'W. G.' (without gratuity); where, for one reason or another, the medal was not issued, the entry is marked 'N. S.' (not sanctioned) and struck through.
