Except in the home ports, the register refers only to British shipping: each ship is usually identified merely by its name, and the master's surname, although masters' christian names are given occasionally. Manchester South Union Railway Shareholders (1837) The return of the railway subscription contracts deposited in the Private Bill Office lists the shareholders in the Manchester South Union Railway, subscribers to shares towards the Ł2,000,000 estimated expense of the project. British Consuls, Vice-Consuls and Consular Agents to The Two Sicilies (1857) The Mercantile Navy List and Annual Appendage to the Commercial Code of Signals for All Nations, edited by J. H. Brown, was published By Authority in 1857. It includes a list of her Majesty's Consuls Abroad and of Salaried Vice-Consuls; and a list of Unpaid British Vice-Consuls and Consular Agents. Both lists are arranged by country, and within that by residence (superintending consulates are printed with an asterisk before them); persons whose names are given in italics are only consular agents.
