Mrs S. C. Lomas of the Historical Manuscripts Commission prepared this report on the manuscripts of Mrs Frankland-Russell-Astley of Chequers Court in Buckinghamshire, published in 1900. There are a few items included earlier than 1670, and a few later than 1754, but broadly the collection was divided into three groups: 1. Russell and Frankland correspondence 1657 to 1697; 2. Cutts and Revett papers 1687 to 1708; 3. Colonel Charles Russell's letters 1742 to 1754. Sir John Russell was married to Frances, daughter of Oliver Cromwell; their daughter Elizabeth married sir Thomas Frankland. Their son John Russell, governor of Fort William in Bengal, married as his second wife Joanna (niece of Lord Cutts) widow of colonel Edmund Revett; and John's son, colonel Charles Russell married Colonel Revett's daughter, Mary Joanna. The largest part of this collection is the correspondence of Colonel Russell, of the 1st Regiment of Foot, and later of the Coldstream Guards, soldiering in the Netherlands.ATKINS. | Agriculturists and horticulturists

J. Baxter of Lewes, proprietor of the Sussex Agricultural Press, published a compendium called 'The Library of Agricultural and Horticultural Knowledge; with an Appendix on Suspended Animation, Poisons, and the Principal Laws relating to Farming and Rural Affairs'. This was supported by a large subscription of interested gentlemen, farmers and gardeners, whose names and addresses are indexed here. The 1953 year book includes this list of members corrected to 1 August 1953, giving year of election to the various grades, surname (in bold), christian name, honours, address, and telephone number. 'Graduates shall be students of structural engineering who have attained the age of not less than 21 years and have passed a qualifying examination.'ATKINS. A parliamentary poll of the freemen and electors of the City of Oxford was taken 30 June 1841, the candidates being Donald Maclean (Mac), James Haughton Langston (Lan) and Neill Malcolm (Mal). The poll book records the names, addresses and occupations of the householders, district by district, as well as the names of the freemen of the city, and shows for whom they voted.ATKINS.
